Diary Notes: Xu Peiwu
From 1997 to 2011, Cantonese Photographer Xu Peiwu (许培武) has recorded with his camera the drastic changes which took place in Zhujiang New Town.
From an agricultural community in the suburbs of the city to the CBD of Guangzhou, Xu's camera shows the transformations the area has undergone, but also reminds us of what we have lost.
As Xu Peiwu explains, old communities were destroyed, migrant workers brought prostitution, construction meant forced relocation, but time was at work and nothing could stop the inevitable transformation of Zhujiang New Town.
After being exhibited in Fei Gallery in Guangzhou a few years ago, "Return to the Garden of Eden" opens at Spot Art Gallery, located in the heart of Zhujiang New Town.
Xu Peiwu is a photographer who documents the images of Chinese cities.
Since 2010, he has been traveling around the country to visit all the locations mentioned in Li Bai’s poems. After one year of editing, he published a photography album of all the photos he took in the trips.
And the photos are being showed in Guangzhou through artistic installation.
Unfortunately, there isn't as much findable material by this artist, but it seems only fair to show it to you, since it's part of my collection journal.
